It is the imperative of the Honor Society Foundation to make the honors community inclusive and welcoming to all. From the inception of the first honor society, their presence was shrouded in secrecy in the beginning, and evolved to barriers to prohibit membership.
The history of honor societies is not complete without acknowledging that African Americans, women and religious minorities were barred from entry.
Many of these legacy honor societies still preclude members under the guise of achievement. Underrepresented minorities, who like the SAT’s may not have the historical resources to achieve, are again left out, creating a vicious cycle of exclusion and disenfranchisement.
It’s time to stand up, and create open honor societies for all!
InclusiveHonors.org, by the Honor Society Foundation, exists to fight for the right of all to be included in honor societies. Join the fight for equality of access!
