Michael Dewing, Community Service Scholarship Recipient, Broward College

To all my “Middleclass” Americans: “Age Well and Stay Young; for their sake as much as yours!” Early Retirement; The “New Standard”

My  story  in  education  began  as  President  Obama  was  gearing  up  for  a  second  term  in  2012.    The economy  wasn’t  quite  ripe  with  employment  opportunity  for  an  almost  50-year-old  “worker  bee”  with  no formal  education.   I  needed  answers  and  fast.   While  engaged  in  the  newly  named  “Workforce  One”  career center attempting in vain to align a creative mind with those of the “enlightenment”, I found solace in a sharp counselor named Terry, a former airline pilot, (then) a “career specialist.”   He turned my attention to the new project initiated from  the VA  and Washington crowd  called VEAP.   Veterans Education  Assistance Program.   I embraced  the  opportunity,  earned  my  AA  degree from  Broward  College  with  many  amazing  experiences  and remain   ever   thankful   to   my   “Seahawks”   and   for   visionary   public   policy   with   teams   that   put   together comprehensive packaging to make the dream of education a reality.  I had found a home in the educational nest which  continues  to  provide  me  great  comfort  and  resolution.    I  am  a  Homeless  US  Veteran,  over  50  and unemployable due to my great depth of “experience”!  This is Corporate Enterprise in America today, supported by  our  great  institution  for  societal  growth;  University  Education!   In  early  2018,  around  “Spring  Break”  and following the horror of another national tragedy; school shooting at MSD, I was looking for faith, in something, in anything!  I found an opportunity!  How wonderful I thought, that my efforts in collegiate study would not go unnoticed or accomplished in vanity.  I was wrong!  I had put what little faith I had mustered into an inquiry sent to me by a senior-level recruiter in HR, operating in the hospitality segment.   They were offering an internship training   platform,   (paid)   for   18   months,   and   upon   successful   completion   of   their   “Global   Leadership Development Program”, I would be presented with a “Salaried Offer”!  Amazing!  Fantastic!  This was it; I finally made it or so I thought.  They were looking for “Top-Tier Students” and I was selected, out of thousands, if not many hundreds of thousands of potential candidates for the role of a lifetime? That’s what it felt like at the time and I had so much enthusiasm for the opportunity.  They threw me out like the Trash we all ignore!  Pitiful!

I am “Too Experienced”!   Perhaps some of my readership feels the same way? And how did we get all our  experience?  We  spent  time  acquiring  them,  right?  Of  course,  and  now  we  can  rationalize  the  concept together? We’re not getting any “Younger”,  as a matter of  fact,  when  we spend time,  we age? That’s simple enough to contemplate.  So let’s recap here just a bit.  We AGE as we spend TIME to gain our EXPERIENCE? Well we  don’t  have  to  become  a  “Rocket  Scientist”  or  a  “Brain  Surgeon”  to  comprehend  that  all  3  terms  are analogous, which in essence means they are relatable and relevant unto each other in this context.   Supreme Court of America, I hope you are paying very close attention here, because the weight of this caselaw and area of  precedent,  has  the  potential  mass  to  consume  and  crush,  our  entire  society!   75  Million  Baby  Boomers! What’s personally troubling about my particular circumstance, is the HR person is actually an alumni of the very University where the harvesting of bright YOUNGER minds took place, and if we’re being real about our deeper level  of  understanding  here,  these  kinds  of  actions  have  been  taking  place  across  the  nation  in  every  single institution of higher learning since the inception of the American Constitution!  Back then, the oppressors were not  so  subtle,  and  it’s  still  a  stab  in  our  collective  hearts  and  minds  to  answer  this  “Strategic  Alliance”  of indiscriminate capitalism.  And favoritism of a consumptive predisposition to lust for such things.  Where is the “Value” of a “Degree” to an educational performance for career enhancement and “Student Success” whatever that means, when the only applications are those we will make with our Bankers or our Jailers? Interesting? I see Law School as a viable new option.  By the time I have completed my series of “NO VALUE” degrees, I will have acquired an insurmountable amount of many ones and zeros accumulating in various investment accounts.   I’ll have plaques of accomplishment adorning my library, office space and smoking dens in a multitude of properties purchased with “Student Loan Debt”, and I will become a “Success Story”!  Now how do I get there? Why with your   help   of   course,   and   through   the   kindness   of   corporate   sustainability   initiatives   promoting   core competencies  and  fabulous,  “Mission  Statements”  (of  retained  earnings  no  doubt)?  Oh  yes,  the  world  is  an oyster, salty and briny, slimy and slick!  I am its’ Pearl; shiny and new, well-rounded and Brilliant!  Send money, or flowers, this could be the death of poets and poetry!   Fear Not, for Romance still beats in the Heartland of America!    You  are  my  Beating  Heart,  oh  soft  and  wonderful  benefactors.    Thank  you,  more  and  more  and whatever more you can afford, to help support the poor, lonely, brokenhearted Wretches of the world.   They need our help; won’t you join and help me spark new life in our regulatory language, our new corporate and institutional governess programs, and most of all, our New Day America “Financial Market Fund” and “Liquidity Accounting Mechanism”? I’m intrigued, how about you? I hope to qualify for many programs, paid internships and continuing education training with a variety of business models that support professional development and view education  as  an  accomplishment for  compensatory  roles.   To  say  that  task  has  become something  of  a challenge in today’s business climate, is an understatement!  However, I remain ever faithful in American Small Business  Communities  and  will  cultivate  further,  those  relationships  that  may  employ  a  civility  in  men  and women working for common goals.

College  has  changed  the  game  for  me  as  well.   I  can  draw  the  concepts  visually  and  have  gravitated towards  science,  financial  and  economic  principles,  entrepreneurship,  management  and  planning.   I’m  also  a writer and an author for legal theories.   I should have picked “Journalism”.   I’m a real “Go-Getter” for a Story, thus all the research and ability for dissertation? Thinking about Politics, I imagine I’d be good for the team?  I’d like  to  bring  some  levity  into  their  ability  to  communicate,  using  guest  service  and  salesmanship  techniques building  a  New  Day  American  Congress  Investor  Team.    Bipartisan  Coexistence;  we  can  do  that,  trust  me! Although, I’ve always admired the Senate, I’m really an Ambassador at heart.  I’m interning as a classic romantic and somewhat of an idealist with conservative foundations in contemporary values.  Certainly liberated with an inclusive strategy that defines the amalgamation of democracy in our citizens.  Today, I look forward to working with  people  across  this  country  and  the  world.     We’ll  start  at  the  top  with  bankers  and  investors.   I  have a financial concept brewing for patent and it’s been gaining ground in certain circles.   I build relationships!  I also build  dreams  and  experiences.    I  may  be  on  the  verge  of  greatness?    Time  will  tell  the  tale,  as  will  the benefactors  of  an  aging  millennial  class  looking  back  over  their  own  life experience  and  50  years  of  stability, productive economies and a world moving together, in unison and harmony building the technology for a new exploration to the evolution of mankind.  I’m looking for the “Show Angels™” investors, brokers, luxury market dealers and our “Sharks!”  I’ll propose a trust fund schematic with public and private investment dollars.  We’ll engage  the  US  Congress  and  Federal  Reserve  to  create  an  accounting  hedge  for  America?    Responsible regulatory  language  begins  with  a  plan  of  inclusive  considerations.   This  is  a  far  cry  from  the  streets  of  the homeless and unemployed in our great country, but as an Honorable US Veteran, I’ve chosen to serve again, our community, our Nation and our Family of Democracy  building on the foundations  of constitutional principles. Our Country needs big thinking and bold economic strategy.   We need a way to shape financial change into a regulatory harness, build the structure of rules that reward successful transitions, shake out bad players, policies and proposals, fuel a finance generator with “AI” statistical algorithms that predict market exchanges and use Federal Depository Insurance Corporation guidelines to secure confidence and trillions in GDP generation!   Can you put a “Value” on the preservation of American Life and Lifestyle?  No, it’s priceless!  But we can gear gently for a system that cycles our increased perception of value and use the anxiety of anticipated wealth, long-lasting and enduring  wealth,  as the impulse to  fuel the  depository mechanism encouraging a Nation  to  Bond, Unify, Innovate  and  Participate  in  the Greatest  Financial  Instrument  ever  devised  and  employed  for  design  use and franchise that this country or any other will ever know in our lifetime!  We are the Legacy!   Thank you for your time and consideration of these important matters facing our institutions.
