While there are so many majors for college students to choose from, there are certainly majors that give others an edge over the competition in the job market, in terms of which professions are hiring. A business degree is a stable investment and responsible for a large portion of those who are hired into the workforce upon their graduation. While “business” can seem quite general, the business schools are often broken down into multiple schools of thought and learning. It is up to students to pick an area of business to specialize in. Don’t know where to start? Here are the HonorSociety.org ranked top business majors:

Finance: Finance is always a suitable business degree to pursue. The main component of the Financial majors’ future jobs focuses on interpreting financial data. These skills are often used to help their employers, nonprofits, or themselves. Whether they are going over future investments or creating a budget for someone, strong math skills are necessary. If you plan to pursue finance, we recommend that you take a look at the coursework, first. If you want to eventually become a stockbroker, field experience and specialized tests are administered.

Accounting: In terms of course work when it comes to reporting financial activity, accounting is the degree to pursue. This is not just a bookkeeping position–it’s making sense of the data trends and numbers that relate to the business and its growth. Accountants learned how to manage money, and they become specialists in translating that knowledge to their client, or the rest of the business they work for. They can even use this knowledge to encourage investors or business partners to feel more assured in their stake with a company. Though you can work in this field with a bachelor’s degree, to become a certified public accountant, you’ll have to pass a specialized test.

Economics: A regular, general economic major will study the production, conservation and allocation of resources in conditions of scarcity, together with the organizational frameworks related to these processes. However, there are multiple specialized programs that tend to hone in on one type of economics–macro or micro, and whether or not it is being used for business purposes or for general theory purposes.

Marketing: While products are often the final step in a consumer determine if their money was worth a purchase–it’s just that, a final step. Without the right product, place, promotion or price, a product launch is sure to be unsuccessful. It’s helpful to create a buzz surrounding a product or service to draw people towards one’s business. Marketing can make the difference between a company’s success or failure. With a good marketing plan in place, clients and companies can rest assured that they will make the most profit from their products, all while helping consumers find what they need in an affordable manner.

Management: Business managers, administrators and owners are the people who keep businesses on track. Equally important in a small or large business, the people in these positions are able to determine a business’ strengths and weaknesses, determine how to make the most out of a product or service, and how to steer companies, and people, through rough times to stay the course for smoother sailing, structure-wise.

International Business: While a business tactic may work in one country, it may fall completely flat, tone-deaf, or downright bizarre in another country. It’s important to take language and culture into account when dealing with businesses or businesspeople from outside of your own country. Whether a company is attempting to sell their product across the world, or simply producing their products there, understanding the culture of the area and their business practices is essential. These majors specialize in this.

Whether you’re looking into the school of business for the first time or you’re looking to specialize in one of these fields, keep in mind that all of these majors can be used to start, form or partake in any type of business in the scope of your life. Often, the classes people are presented with include resume building workshops, networking events and case studies from real-life occurrences. No matter what major you choose, as long as you are passionate about the subject that you study, success is bound to come to you!
