Best National Food Banks for Donations

There is a lot going on in the world right now, and there has never been a better time to donate to a food bank or hunger-based charitable organization, national or local. There is so much information floating around regarding how people can help in a times such as these, and while most of these forms of outreach are demonstrating the good in the world, it is important to donate to official, reliable, responsible organizations that have a long running history of meeting their mission and goals. While we certainly don’t want to tell you how or where to donate your money, the Honor Society Foundation has done some careful research into the top ranked national, charitable food organizations for you, as a place to start (these descriptions have been summarized from each organization’s main website, which have been linked and credited below):

Meals on Wheels America

“Meals on Wheels delivers warm, nutritious meals to homebound senior citizens who can no longer cook for themselves. But it is also an opportunity to offer those who are alone a bit of company, address any safety issues, and even provide holistic care. With almost 1 million volunteers, MOW is active in all 50 states and the U.S. territories.”

Feeding America

“A nationwide hunger relief organization. For every $1 donated, the network distributes 22 meals to people facing hunger. The largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States, Feeding America connects people with food through donations, volunteers, and dedicated staff. The organization takes nutritious food—before it goes to waste—from retailers, manufacturers, and farmers and gives it to people in need.”

Feed the Children

“This NGO works to end childhood hunger. Feed the Children takes action toward proving children and families in need with clean water, food, clothing, medical care and education. Feed the Children exists to fight childhood hunger, and has existed for over 40 years. It takes donors who believe in the cause, experts to diagnose the problem and innovate solutions, organizations to pool their resources and expertise, and communities to work together for change.”

Action Against Hunger USA

“Action Against Hunger has been committed to ending world hunger for nearly 40 years spanning almost 50 countries. Continuously exploring how to solve the hunger problem, the organization saves the lives of children and their families through detection, prevention, and treatment, particularly after a disaster strikes.”

There are many, many other organizations and charities that cover the issue of hunger and work in a daily effort to end this struggle. The organizations listed above, however, are reliable resources and people can rest easy knowing that their donation is going directly to the cause they are invested in. It is extremely important to come together in times such as these and lend a helping hand to those who are seriously in need.
